LINC - Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada
Fall 2010/ Winter 2011
This program is funded by the Government of Canada through Citizenship and Immigration Canada and is for adults, 18 years and older who are permanent residents and convention refugees. Refugee claimants and Canadian Citizens are not eligible for the LINC program.
The purpose of the LINC Program is to help newcomers to Canada become participating members of Canadian society as soon as possible.
The Canadian content of the LINC classes offers practical information about life in Canada, focuses on social and cultural issues and, through a variety of field trips, links learners to their community. Students in the LINC program are provided with language training and settlement skills.
Anyone wishing to join a LINC class must first undergo a language assessment that identifies the client's language and training needs. LINC clients must be assessed at:
National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA Language Assessment & Referral Centre Suite 308, 240 Catherine Street Ottawa, ON K2P 2G8
Please phone 613-238-5462 to make an appointment. The Centre refers immigrants to the appropriate LINC classes or other program providers.
The 2010/2011 LINC Program will run from September 7, 2010 to June 24, 2011.
Pre-registration will take place between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm from August 30 to September 1 at all locations.
Please bring with you your immigration papers, proof of address and LINC assessment document.
